  3. About for guidance, not guesswork
  4. Acronym finder - for over 750,000 human edited definitions
  5. Ajaxwhois is a great for site statistics searches
  6. Alexa is good for finding information on the top 100k sites
  7. AllPlus - meta search and discovery engine
  8. AlltheWeb - part of the Yahoo family
  9. AltaVista is still out there, still doing a good job
  10. Answers is the world's leading Q&A site
  11. AOL Search no, I didn't think it was still going, but it is
  12. Ask (Jeeves) still limping along, shadow of its former self
  13. Ask if you want the US/global version
  14. Azoos is the brightest yellow search engine out there
  15. Backtype for realtime conversational search
  16. Beaucoup has been around a while, but doesn't impress me
  17. Behold for flickr images
  18. Betterwhois gets you good accurate information on domains
  19. Blindsearch to compare results of major engines
  20. Blinkx is a video search engine, with 35 million hours of it!
  21. Browsys is a multi search engine
  22. ChaCha allows you get other people to help with your search
  23. Clusty provides good clustered results
  24. Collarity for personalised searching across different types of data
  25. Collecta for real time search
  26. CompletePlant for 70k of searchable databases. Good for deep web

  28. Definitions is good for thousands of definitions
  29. Deepdyve for deep web searching
  30. Digital Librarian; a librarian's choice of the best of the web
  31. DMOZ for a hierarchical directory, old but still good
  32. Dogpile for multisearch of Google, Yahoo, Ask & Bing (GYAB)
  33. Dooblet finds alternatives for you
  34. Draze to compare Google, Yahoo and Bing
  35. DuckDuckGo is a family safe engine
  36. eBingBong is another social search engine
  37. Entireweb is a freetext search engine
  38. Exalead is an excellent alternative to Google
  39. Excite is there, but does anyone use it any more?
  40. Factbites where results make sense
  41. FaganFinder is a superb collection of search resources
  42. Fefoo multi search engine with access to 250+ search engines
  43. Findanyfilm available in the UK in any format
  44. FindSounds for sound effects
  45. FinQoo is an underwhelming meta search engine
  46. Freesearch  is a UK based search resource
  47. Galaxy is a directory based search engine
  48. Google doesn't need any words from me
  49. Google caffeine is an experimental Google engine
  50. healia is an excellent medical search engine
  51. Hotbot is a blast from the past and that's about all
  52. Hunch is a decision engine, which works very well indeed
  53. iBoogie is a clustering meta search engine
  54. Icerocket has RSS feed options and is a good alternative
  55. IllumiRate lights your way through the web. Apparently.
  56. Infomine for scholarly data, and is excellent
  57. Info Service is quirky and very colourful. Odd directory though
  58. Internet Archive to see all those old pages!
  59. Intute for academic resources. First class service
  60. Irazoo search, win gift cards. I want to search, not win $5
  61. Iseek is a clustering search engine; very good too
  62. Ixquick is an excellent metasearch engine
  63. Jux2 compares Google, Yahoo and Bing results. Very useful
  64. Kartoo is a visual search engine that's recently had a makeover
  65. KidsClick is websearch for children by librarians
  66. KidRex is another children's safe search engine
  67. Librarians' Internet Index is a brilliant resource
  68. LocateTV find shows, actors and movies
  69. Lycos is still out there, but getting old and creaky
  70. Mahalo for social search, human created information resources
  71. Mamma is the mother of all meta search engines
  72. Melzoo results on the left, fullscreen page on the right pane
  73. MetaCrawler is a meta search engine
  74. Middlespot is a visual search engine
  75. Monstercrawler for a GYAB search
  76. Najdi.si - Slovenian search engine.
  77. Navisso is a search engine that doesn't push official sites up
  78. Newscred for credible news stories
  79. OAIster for academic material that's otherwise hard to find
  80. OmniMedicalSearch is a top notch medical search engine
  81. OneRiot for realtime search
  82. Oxysearch is a multi search engine for GYAB and Pixsy
  83. Panabee for comparing results from different search engines
  84. Peerbot searches for icons
  85. Pepesearch for freetext and directory search. Not impressed

  92. Quintura for visual search in a word/tag cloud
  93. Redz for visual search - an arch of webpage thumbnails
  94. References is a good source of reference resources
  95. Re-QUEST is a directory based engine
  96. Scandoo checks for authority of the results it returns
  97. Scirus for scientific data - great for academic use
  98. Scoopler for real time search
  99. Scour to search socially, see community votes and comments
  100. Searchbug for people and company search in the US
  101. Search is a multi search engine. Not stunned by it
  102. Searchboth lets you compare results for 9 different engines
  103. Searchbots is a 'build your own' resource
  104. Searchdazzle puts 4 engines on one page. Messy!
  105. Searchhippo is another multisearch engine that doesn't excite me
  106. SearchMedia is a UK medical search engine for professionals
  107. Searchmerge is a multi search engine for 8 major engines
  108. Searchthenet is a multisearch engine - 20 engines offered
  109. SearchtheWeb is a directory engine which fails to impress
  110. Select Surf selects the best sites the web has to offer, apparently
  111. Similar-site finds similar sites to that which you provide
  112. Similarsites finds similar sites to that which you provide
  113. Similicio.us finds similar sites to that which you provide
  114. Silobreaker is the #1 news site out there, bar none
  115. Siteslike is a find similar sites engine
  116. Slider is a full text search engine that searches DMOZ
  117. SmartLinks provides quick links in a directory structure
  118. Spacetime 3D looks very similar to Redz; visual search engine
  119. Spezify for multisearch visual results
  120. Sproose search and recommend social search engine
  121. Stilltasty is a food date/edibility search engine
  122. Struly is a very neat multi search engine
  123. Surchur for real time search
  124. Sunsteam is a directory engine, now 10 years old
  125. Synonyms net is the webs most comprehensive synonym resource
  126. Technorati for blog search
  127. The Net 1 is a directory engine
  128. Thunderstone is a website catalog, directory based engine
  129. Tinker for real time serach didn't impress me in the slightest
  130. Trooker is a great video search engine resource
  131. Turbo10 used to be a great hidden web engine, now just freetext
  132. Turboscout is an excellent multi search engine
  133. Tweepsearch for Twitter biography searching
  134. Twurdy checks for readability in search results
  135. Ujiko is a visual search engine; and a nice one at that
  136. WebBrain is a human created set of search resources
  137. WebCrawler is a meta engine for GYAB
  138. Webkruz is a visual search engine
  139. Web-Search is a multi search engine that offers 18 resources
  140. WebWorld for quality sites on the web, in a directory style
  141. Whozat is the people search engine
  142. Wolfram Alpha is a computational search engine; good but different!
  143. Wozzon is a UK events search engine. Works well
  144. WWW Virtual Library for directory listing of virtual libraries
  145. Xalo : A Vietnamese Search Engine
  146. Xaphoo is a multi search engine but not exciting
  147. Yahoo needs no introduction either
  148. Yahoo for kids safe search
  149. Yelbol is a knowledge based (smart) search
  150. Yohogo is a multi search engine, but nothing special
  151. YouTube is for videos, but you knew that already
  152. Zakta is a personalised search engine resource
  153. Zapmeta searches all the major engines
  154. 123 people is a UK people search engine
